Imphal, June 11 2021:
The first phase of Churachandpur's Covid-19 mass testing conducted across 28 locations drew a test positivity rate of 5.8% with 169 people returning positive from the total 2871 people tested during the weeklong exercise.
The mass testing that concluded yesterday was scheduled in areas identified as hotspots by the district Medical Department, involving close to 40 villages.
The mass testing exercise clearly elicited uneven responses as some centers recorded samples beyond their targeted numbers while many others fell short.
Even so, seven testing centers record zero positivity rate while Tuiring Phaisen village under Samulamlan TD Block records the highest positivity rate (24.4%) with 32 of the 131 people tested, returning positive.
Villages that recorded zero cases during the mass testing drive includes, Pearsonmun, Tangnuam and Lanva, Hmar Veng and Family Lane, B Vengnom and B Aijalon, Zomi Colony and Mondop Leikai, Kamdou Veng, Molphei Tampak and Torbung.
Notably, the Medical Department had to depute several teams to Tuiring Phaisen yesterday to quell the stigmatization of the positive people.
Sources said the village was on the verge of stigmatizing the positive people, had it not been for the timely intervention of the Medical Department, the Highland Group and Team Saikot.
Local media reports said at least hundred others from the village who are identified as close-contacts and suspected cases will be tested in the coming days.
Meanwhile some villages within the district have continued to roll-out drastic containment plans in their locality as cases continue to surge unabated.
It is also learnt that the CMO Churachandpur has issued a memo to depute a flying squad testing team to Songtal village on Sunday as there are reports of some suspected cases and HRTC confirm Covid Pneumonia at the interior village.
Today Churachandpur recorded 47 new cases while 92 people have recovered.
In the past 11 days of June the district has recorded 891 new cases even as 819 people have recovered during the same period.
