Malom massacre of 2000 - Pay ex-gratia : HC to Govt

Acting on a writ petition filed over the Malom massacre of November 2, 2000, the High Court of Manipur has asked the Government to pay ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to each of the victims within four months.
Significantly Irom Sharmila launched her fast after the Malom massacre.
In the infamous Malom massacre, 10 civilians were mowed down by troops of 8th Assam Rifles and the final judgement of the writ petition was announced today by a Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Mohapatra and Justice Kh Nobin.
The victims of the Malom massacre were Soibam Prakash (19) s/o S Apabi of Malom Tulihal, Gurumayum Bapu Sharma (49) h/o G Padma of Leirenjam Mayai Leikai, Keshtrimayum Inao-macha (23) s/o Ksh Ibochou of Malom Tulihal, Leishang-them (O) Sana w/o L Tomba of Kabowakching Mayai Leikai, Sinam Robinson (27) and National Bravery Awardee Sinam Chandramani (15) both s/o Chandrajini of Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai, Oinam Sanatomba (36) h/o O Ibetombi of Nambol Naorem Makha Leikai, Kangujam Bijoy (33) h/o Memcha of Leimapokpam Makha Leikai, Amakcham Raghumani (34) h/o Parbati of Nambol Naorem Awang Leikai and Tokpam Shantikumar (16) s/o T Somorendro of Malom Tulihal.
Advocate S Lakhikanta appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
Whereas the final judgement was announced today, the final hearing of the petition was conducted on December 2 .
