One held with fake Remdesivir medicines

A team of Porompat police arrested one non local along with 441 pieces of DESREM (Remdesivir 100 mg injection), which are suspected to be fake from New Checkon near Tribal Market on Monday.
Briefing media persons at SP Imphal East conference hall, today, SP Imphal East N Herojit stated that the police team, while on duty at New Checkon area, came across one non local walking on the road near Tribal Market with two bags.
On checking his bags, the police found 441 vials of injection, the SP said and added that the non local, however, failed to produce any documents for the medicine.
The non-local has been identified as Lalo Shah (55) s/o (L) Bauku Shah from Bihar, presently staying in a rented room at Sangaiprou.
On formal enquiry with the State Drug Controller, the Directorate of Health Services found various discrepancies while comparing the seized medicines with the genuine one of the same company, he said and added that possessing the said drug without the consent of the authority concerned is prohibited.
Lalo Shah has been handed over to Porompat police station for further investigation.
According to police, Lalo Shah came to Manipur with the seized medicines along with one person who is suspected to be a kingpin of the racket on July 31 last in an Air Asia flight.
The suspected kingpin, however, left Manipur shortly after his arrival.
Effort is on by police to nab the kingpin and other associates of the case, Herojit informed and appealed to all to procure DESREM only from authorized places.
Reportedly, Lalo Sah has been remanded to 5 days police custody till August 7 .
