Imphal, December 12:
A truck laden with bitumen fell down a gorge when a steel bridge near Tatbung Kuki village, about 10 kms away from Jiribam police station collapsed today ataround 5 am.
Altogether, 12 trucks laden with bitumen were heading toward Imphal.
After eight trucks had crossed the bridge, the bridge collapsed when the 9th truck (MN 01-6681) was crossing it.
Even as there was no human casualty
in the mishap, the bridge was damaged very badly.
It would take some days to restore the bridge.
The truck belongs to one Budha of Kha Potshangbam and its driver is identified as one K Kumar.
The incident was not related to the ongoing road blockade imposed by the Jiribam District Demand Committe.
The Committee has been demanding the upgradation of the sub-division to a revenue dist.
The bridge collapsed on its own as it was worn out.
