UK returnee tests positive, swab sample to be sent to NIV, Pune

One man from Imphal East who returned from the UK recently has been tested positive for coronavirus.
As such, Health Department has initiated due procedure to collect the man's swab sample and send it to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for necessary laboratory test to find out if the virus is of the new strain.
The man who arrived at Imphal on December 17 was found to be negative when he was tested before leaving UK but he tested positive after his return to Imphal.
In order to ascertain the virus strain which has infected the man, his sample would be tested again.
After the man was tested positive at JNIMS last night, tracing of people who travelled with him in the same aeroplane has started, sources informed.
Another person from Imphal East who returned from the UK was tested today but his result was not very clear.
As such, he would be tested again.
Both the UK returnees are being quarantined at RD Wing, Lamphelpat.
JNIMS authority has also initiated due process to send samples of 80 people of the State who went outside the State and already tested positive for coronavirus to NIV, Pune.
Even though 31 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in the State during the last 24 hours, there was no COVID-19 related death during the same period.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 30 civilians and one CAPF personnel were tested positive at JNIMS, RIMS, Maipakpi Hospital, Samaritan Hospital, Shija Hospital, Bishnupur and Babina Diagnostics.
The civilians belong to Imphal West (4), Imphal East (23), Bishnupur (1), Kakching (1) and Churachandpur (1) .
All of them are locals who do not have any significant travel history.
On the other hand, 74 COVID-19 positive people were discharged during the last 24 hours from CAPF (10), home isolation (33), JNIMS (7), RIMS (5), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (3), Lanva (3), Kakching (1), Shija Hospital (6), Raj Medicity (3), Thoubal (1) and Churachandpur (2) .
Whereas the official death toll stands at 348, the cumulative number of positive cases has reached 28,060 (general population 24,685 and Central security personnel 3,375) .
This figure includes 1,234 active cases (general population 1,109 and Central security personnel 125) and 26,478 discharged cases (general population 23,232 and Central security personnel 3,246) .
The recovery rate as on Monday is 94.36 pc .
