Imphal, February 17 2011:
Gracefully accepting the verdict of the voters of Konthoujam in the by election held recently and for which the result was declared today, Chief Minister O Ibobi today admitted that it could have been due to the inability to pay due attention to the development of the said Constituency.
Catching poll pundits by surprise the Congress candidate bit the dust and lost to the Trinamool Congress candidate by a margin of over 600 votes.
Asked on the prime factors that led to the defeat of the Congress candidate, Ibobi said that the anti-incumbency factor cannot be ruled out and though the Congress is about to complete two uninterrupted terms in office, Konthoujam AC had areas which needed the attention of the Government but which was not addressed to on time.
Stating that the Chief Minister understood the sentiments of the people of Konthoujam, he said that there was widespread disatisfaction over the election to the Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat and to assuage the people's sentiments, the Congress put forward its best foot.
