Imphal, June 14: As in the previous years, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) observed Protest Day today in protest against the Bangkok Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) on this day in 2001 .

A statement issued by AMUCO asserted that the Bangkok Agreement was glaring manifestation of the alleged Government of India's divisive policy.

Saying that AMUCO has been observing Protest Day since 2002 in association with the people, it cautioned all the people to stay alert from the divisive policy of the Government of India.

The Bangkok Agreement was a conspiracy to destroy the unity built up among the peoples of North East region based on mutual love and peaceful coexistence.

However, it failed to bring any unwanted incident between the peoples of the region.

Rather, the scheme was defeated by a strong civil movement raised by people of Manipur.

On receiving news of the Bangkok Agreement, AMUCO immediately convened a meeting of all social bodies and adopted a firm resolution to stand united against diabolic policy of Govt of India aimed at creating distrust and animosity amongst people of the region, it recalled.

On June 18, there was a violent protest movement strong enough to thwart the hidden agenda of the Government of India.

In the people's movement from June 14 to June 18, 18 people sacrificed their lives for integrity of the land, it reminded.

Alleging that the Government of India is still pursuing various divisive policies in one way or another with an ulterior motive to sow seeds of distrust and hatred, AMUCO accused Indian political leaders of speaking one thing in Manipur, another in Nagaland and a totally different one in Assam.

Even though there is no guarantee to safeguard integrity of Manipur in the Constitution of India, most politicians used 'integrity' as their main planks in election time, it observed.

Because of the Government of India's divisive policy being pursued since a long time back, there has been no respite in planting wedges among the peoples of North East region on ethnic lines, it asserted.

The divisive policy has a long term objective to ignite a catastrophic civil war in North East region which would annihilate all the indigenous peoples of the region, it alleged.

On the occasion of the Protest Day, AMUCO called upon all to make a firm collective pledge against all policies/conspiracies aimed at creating disunity and animosity among different communities and ethnic groups.
