Imphal, March 28:
After marching across the States of the North East region spreading the message of love, peace and unity to the indigenous peoples of the region, marchers of Young Horizon Manipur were accorded a warm reception at their starting point at Kangla here today.
The march which was participated by about 500 marchers clad in red dresses was flagged off in the last week of January.
They marched across some North Eastern States for about 59 days.
At the reception held under the theme "United We Stand" at Kangla hall, general secretary of the Young Horizon Manipur L Romesh presented a brief account of the 59 day long march.
He remarked that meeting with indigenous Manipuris settling in Nagaland and Assam during the march was a rare and rejoicing experience.
He also conveyed profound gratitude to the Manipuri diasporas for the warm reception and treatment they accorded to the marchers.
Their words of oneness and love refreshed and took off all the weariness and fatigue from the marchers, Romesh conveyed.
Addressing the function, Ng Nongyai observed that the North East region has become a hotspot for human rights violation.
Under such circumstances, it is high time that the State Government do something concrete to check the ever increasing volume of influx as these outsiders are already constituting one-third of the total population of Manipur.
In case the Government fails to take some concrete measures without any delay, the Manipuri would be certainly facing great turmoil socially, politically and economically, Nongyai cautioned.
He also advocated for immediate enforcement of the Inner Line Permit System.
Other speakers called upon all the indigenous people of Manipur to unite to pave way for unity with the indigenous people of Manipur settling outside the State.
They also appealed to all to identify those elements scheming to create misunderstanding and hatred among the people of Manipur so that such threats can be tackled jointly.
The reception ceremony held at Kangla hall was attended by Ngangbam Nongyai of Manipur Human Rights Commission, Chairperson of Kohima Municipal Council Menuovilie, Councillor of Kohima Municipal Council Yevito Kire, editor of the Freedom RK Ranendrajit, founder of Mutuwa Museum Mutua Bahadur, Human Rights Activist Dr Pardeshi, Kakomlunglu Kamei of Kabui Mothers' Association, ex-general secretary of the All Manipur Bar Association Abdul Qayum, president of the Assam Meetei Apunba Lup Wangkhem Saratchandra, Karam Saraswati of the All Assam Manipur Women Development Council, RR Chothe of HERICOUN and Thokchom Ratan of Young Horizon Manipur as presidium members.
