The Committee against Tipaimukh Dam (CADT) was constituted by the Frontal social Organization on August 24, 2002 at Tamenglong Head Quarters empowering to act and work on behalf of the people of Manipur particularly the would be affected people to cause to drop the proposed Tipaimukh Dam Project, says a press release issued by CATD.
It is known fact that many memoranda against the Tipaimukh Dam have been submitted to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and other concerned authorities years back and update, the people have been submitted their objections in meetings with the NEEPCO and the government of Manipur, rallies, dharnas, bandh call launched against the Tipaimukh Dam on known reasons, the release says.
Despite of all these protests and objections to the Proposed Tipaimukh High Dam, the MoU is signed and the government is going to impose its decision against the right and will of the people particularly the would be affected people.
Some of the right thinking people have supported through media like Mayaikoibi Ningthoujam Leikai Nupi Ihou Marup urging the government of Manipur to rebuke the MoU and some friends by correspondence, meeting personally, the release further says.
As a step against the MoU a National Highway bandh will be called on January 22, 2003 from 6 am to 6 pm.
