As in the previous years, the Manipur People�s Liberation Front, Apex body of the underground RPF/PLA, UNLF and the PREPAK, will be observing October 15 next, the anniversary of the merger of Manipur with the Indian Union, as �National Black Day,� a statement said.
In this regard, the MPLF has called a general strike on October 15 to signify the people�s opposition to the forced merger of the erstwhile independent kingdom with the Indian state.
The general strike will begin at midnight on October 14 and continue till 5.30 pm on October 15, the statement said.
The MPLF statement appealed to the public to stay indoors during the general strike, and asked that no vehicles, including cycles and rickshaws should play on the roads.
It also urged that shops should be closed, and the public to eschew all forms of entertainment and festivities during the day.
Essential services, including medical, electricity, water supply and the press will be exempt from the purview of the general strike, the statement said.
