Imphal, June 03 2021:
Special measures should be taken up for the differently abled persons in the State by the Government and authorities concerned in view of the hardships faced by them due to the ongoing second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
The aboye statement was made by State Platform of Disabled People's Organization Manipur (SPDPO) taking into consideration the problems of the differently abled persons due to lack of special measures and arrangements during this difficult time of the pandemic.
The organization questioned where the Disabilities Commissioner and departments concerned like Social Welfare and Minister in charge have gone at this crucial juncture when they should be working earnestly for the welfare of the differently abled persons.
It maintained that separate vaccination programmes have been conducted for the differently abled persons in other States as per the direction of the Central Ministry however such initiatives have not been taken up in Manipur which is really unfortunate.
The departments concerned of other States are extending best possible help to the differently abled persons by providing ration and extending monetary aid as well, added the statement.
Therefore in order to provide some relief to this particular section of the society amid this grim situation of the pandemic, the organization appealed to the authorities to, take up special measures at the earliest.
