Court sends rifleman Thonginthang to jail

Imphal, October 06 2021: The court of CJM, Imphal East on Wednesday sent rifleman Thonginthang Baite, who was involved in the firing incident that took place among escort personnel of BJP state president A Shar-da Devi, to 15 days judicial custody.

A team of Porompat PS brought Thonginthang before the court on Wednesday.

As per the report submitted by IO of the case to the court, rifleman A Bimolchandra, who was killed in the firing incident, brought one litre of local liquor after returning from a night out and woke up Thonginthang, who was sleeping, for drinking the liquor together.

After having the liquor together, Thonginthang shamed Bimolchandra by saying that he (Bimolchandra) got frequent night out and this led to heated argument between the two.

When Bimolchandra went outside, Thonginthang corked his service weapon and tried to blank fire.

However, Bimolchandra returned back promptly and tried to snatch the weapon and the weapon fired accidently amidst the tussle.

After hearing the IO's report, the court sent Thonginthang to judicial custody till October 20 .
