Imphal, September 03 2022:
Claiming that several women vendors of Lamphel supermarket are being denied vending space, Lamphel Super Market Shops and Street Vendors' Welfare Association member Konsam Tanuja has appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter and take up necessary measures.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, Tanuja alleged that instead of the vendors, who have been carrying out their trades in the market area; president, secretary, treasurer and advisors of the Association are allotting vending spaces to their relatives and friends, who are not vendors.
Moreover, these association functionaries are trying to shift the blame to IMC when some of the members brought up the issue with them.
Some members also apprise the issue to the IMC commissioner, MAHUD minister and chief minister but did not get any positive response.
Consequently, they filed a complaint to the Manipur Human Rights Commission and the commission directed the association and authority concerned to provide vending spaces to the members of the association.
Unfortunately, neither the association nor the IMC is doing anything to uphold the directive of MHRC, she lamented, while drawing attention of the government.
