Imphal, August 03 2021:
Maintaining that there are various flaws in the list of beneficiaries for the Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme under University Grant Commission (UGC), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has urged authority concerned to review the beneficiary list.
Addressing a press meet at its office, MSF vice-president Maibam Julesh said that they have submitted memorandum to the state's education minister and the union minister of state for education in this regard.
He said that the scholarship is being implemented in the state since 2014-15 and over 1000 students of the state selected as beneficiaries every year.
However, only 974 students were enlisted for 2020-21.Suspicious of possible irregularities in preparing the merit list, a team of MSF carried out investigation into the matter and came across several irregularities, he claimed, adding that many students claiming to be undergoing graduation course were found mentioning higher secondary schools as their educational institutes, some others claiming to study in engineering course in colleges offering only Arts, Sciences and Commerce courses and some of them citing BSc Nursing in Air Force Technical College.
Taking serious note of the irregularities, he appealed to the UGC and the department concerned to review the beneficiary list for this year and publish a new and authentic list.
