National conference on environment begins at MU

Imphal, December 14 2023:
A two-day national seminar on 'Emerging Trends in Environmental Research', which is being organised by Manipur University Department of Forestry and Environmental Science commenced from Thursday at the varsity's VC Court Hall.
The inaugural programme was attended by MU School of Human & Environmental Sciences dean professor S Jibonkumar Singh as chief guest, Department of Forestry and Environmental Science head Dr Vivek Vaishnav as functional president while West Bengal State University, Kolkata former vice chancellor professor Jyotish Prakash Basu, Assam University Department of Ecology & Environmental Science Professor Jayashree Rout, College of Fisheries, Lembucherra (Tripura) professor Rk Majumdar and MU Department of Ecology & Environmental Sciences former dean professor Soibam Ibotombi were present as guests of honour.
Speaking at the programme, NACETER 2023 convenor Dr Konthoujam Khelchandra pointed out that the seminar is being attended by 120 participants including 16 from outside Manipur through video conferencing and 68 from state.
Informing that the programme is being organised with the aim to discuss the challenges arising out of adverse climate change and find out ways of mitigating these challenges, Khelchandra expressed firm believe that the programme will bring positive outcome as experts and intellectuals will be sharing their findings, ideas and suggestions.
As part of the programme, an abstract of the conference was released and saplings of state tree - 'Uningthou' planted.
