Imphal, October 15 2016:
Sitting MLAs who have resigned from their respective posts and joined BJP anew would not be given any concrete assurance of BJP tickets in advance.
Some key functionaries of BJP told The Sangai Express that some sitting MLAs belonging to other political parties were admitted to BJP after due consultation with the party’s top leadership.
But they would not be given any concrete assurance for party tickets.
BJP has been examining all the potential candidates so that BJP can form the next Government in the State after the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election which is likely to be held early next year.
Sources informed that BJP has been working to bring as many as 10 sitting Congress MLAs into the party.
BJP leaders are expecting that at least 10 Congress sitting MLAs would join the party ahead of the State Assembly election.
Meanwhile, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Hemanta Biswa Sarma who contested the last Assam State Assembly election on a BJP ticket after quitting Congress would be arriving here tomorrow.
Hemanta Biswa Sarma may be accompanied by BJP organising secretary (North East States) Ajay Jaiswal and Assam BJP organising secretary Phanida Sharma.
The main purpose of their visit to Imphal is to chalk out the party’s strategy for the Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
They may say something about sitting MLAs who have joined or would join BJP anew, conveyed the BJP functionaries.
The team led by Hemanta Biswa Sarma may stay at Imphal for a few days and consult State BJP leaders on the party’s poll strategy, the sources added.
