State Congress chief gives unity call

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (I) president Gaikhangam has given a clarion call to all section of the society to work with cohesion in order to achieve the cherished goal of socio-economic development.
Addressing party workers at a block level flagship scheme training programme organised by Saikul Block Congress Committee at Saikul today, the MPCC chief cautioned that parochialism and antagonism against one another will only impede the people's aspiration for overall development.
stating that the Congress-led SPF government is committed to ensuring egalitarian development in both the hills and plain areas of the State, he also called upon the party workers and leaders to contribute their mite in achieving the objective.
The Nungba AC MLA further emphasised on the need for every citizen to remain vigil and closely monitor whether or not the people are reaping benefits of Central-sponsored welfare programmes initiated in various parts of the State.
It is equally important that the people assess whether welfare projects are being properly implemented or the contractors/agencies are drawing bills without execution of the assigned tasks, he maintained.
Pointing out that there is need for every responsible citizen in Saikul area to inform the general public about development works undertaken in the sub-division, Gaikhangam also urged the locals to intimate any grievances to the authorities concerned.
speaking at the occasion, Heirok AC MLA M Okendra, who is the Sadar Hills DCC in-charge, expressed that inspite of the recent launch of Manipur unit Naga People's Front in Senapati district headquarters the Nagaland-based political organisation thriving in Manipur is very remote.
He also appealed to extent cooperation and support to the Congress party's endeavour for ensuring progress and development in the State.
In his address, social worker yamthong alleged that due to inefficiency of successive representatives of the people Saikul assembly constituency had been deprived of development in the past 30 years.
Conveying that the flagship training programme organised today is an indication that Saikul would certainly make progress if mandate of the electors favour Congress candidate, he asserted that expectation of the Saikul people for overall development could be realised in case Congress nominee gets elected.
Former Ministers C Doungel, DK Korungthang, Dr Chaltonlien Amo and Francis Ngajokpa also addressed the gathering.
MPCC joint secretary (administration) Jiten presented the key-note address.
