Imphal, June 04 2011:
Responding to the call of a nation-wide "eradicate corruption movement" by Swami Ramdev, the Manipur unit of Bharat Swabhiman and Pantanjali Jog Samiti began Saturday a fast unto death protest at Chinga Makha in Singjamei Imphal.
Around twenty satyagrahis of Manipur Bharat Swabhiman gathered in Singjamei under the banner "Bhrashtachar Mitao Satyagraha" today demanding from the Central government for the reversal of black money parked in foreign tax havens.
A participant satyagrahi said at the protest site that "though we are not a political party we would like Lokpal bill to be passed and implemented though out the country" .
"Our demands are for the eradication of corruption in the country and for the bringing back of black money stashed away on foreign shores," he added.
India is a poor country but if the forty trillion (US $ 9 trillion) black money is to be brought back in the country there will not be any more poverty, said Ravi, another participant in the fast protest.
The satyagrahis have pledged that until and unless Swami Ramdev's demands are met, or until he gives up, the protest in Singjamei will continue.
In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on May 4, 2011, Swami Ramdev put forth three demands.
They are: to bring back Rs 400 trillion of black money, enactment of stringent Lok Pal Bill and to end foreign laws, customs, and culture in Independent Bharat with the introduction of Gandhi's Hind Swaraj.
