A delegation of the MPs and MLAs Forum today met the Governor Ved Marwah and urged him to release all those including students arrested in connection with the anti-ceasefire agitation.
The delegation also urged the Governor to make arrangements for return of Government employees who have fled the valley so that they can attend office.
The delegation also sought helps from the Government in their efforts to maintain the unity of the MLAs and the State.
The delegation also drew the attention of the Governor on the failure of the Centre to send an official communication to the Manipur Government with regard to the announcement by the Home Minister in Parliament that the NSCN (IM)-Govt of India ceasefire would not be extended to Manipur.
After giving a patient hearing the Governor assured all possible help, the Spokesman of the Forum Dr L Chandramani said in a release.
The JD(S) also urged the Government to immediately release all those arrested and dropping of the charges levelled against them, saying that they were arrested in connection with the movement for protection of territorial integrity of Manipur.
This prolonged detention and imprisonment of 40 odd agitators discriminatorily is unjust and has caused breach of peace and may lead to further turmoil and hardships, the party said in a release.
In a resolution the Executive Committee of the party yesterday resolved to urge the Government to release the arrested persons.
The party also observed 59th anniversary of the "Quit India Movement." Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council has submitted a charter of demands to the Manipur Governor urging him to help release all the arrested student leaders and others in held in connection with the anti ceasefire extension agitations.
CPI also demanded setting up of a road protection force on the national highways 39 and 53 to ensure uninterrupted flow of vehicular traffic, especially those carrying essential commodities.
The Manipur University Teacher's Association in an Executive Body meeting today resolved to appeal to the Government to release unconditionally the AMSU leaders and other participants in the people�s movement at the earliest.
JAC Ithai also demanded immediate release of the arrested persons.
