Three persons including one VVF volunteer were gunned down in tow separate incidents in the State today official sources said.
Troops of the Assam Rifles have killed tow suspected UGs during an operation at Gopibung village near Kangpokpi this afternoon.
Weapons were also recovered form them.
In a release the PIB Defence Wing said acting on specific information regarding presence of UGs in village Gopibung troops of 21 AR launched a special patrol from Kangpokpi.
While the patrol party was approaching the village they were fired upon by the UGs.
The troops fired back in retaliation in which two UGs were killed, the release said.
One nine mm carbine with three magazines, 94 rounds of assorted ammunition and one radio set of Japanese make were recovered, the release said adding that the dead bodies were handed over to the Kangpokpi police station.
Police sources said the identities of the two dead bodies are yet to be established.
It may be recalled that troops of the 21 AR also shot dead another youth at Keithelmanbi yesterday.
In another violent incident unidentified armed persons shot dead a man said to be a VVF volunteer.
The incident took place at 6.30 pm at Mayaikoibi Chabungbam Leikai under Lamphel police station in Imphal West today.
Local residents said they heard three gunshot sounds and when people came out from their houses they found a dead body on the road.
On getting the information a police team rushed to the spot to recover the body.
One identity card issued to Bharat Thakur, Government of India, VVF, Nagaland and Manipur Division was recovered.
The deceased is a resident of Bihar, police said.
Two bullets were pumped at the forehead and belly.
The body is now kept at the RIMS morgue for post mortem.
