Nine primary and high school teachers were honoured by the state government for their dedication and selfless services in the field of teaching at a function held to mark Teachers Day held at the Gandhi Memorial Hall today.
Altogether 26 retired teachers were also presented gifts of honour during the function.
Financial assistance was also distributed to the dependents of seven deceased teachers.
Today's function was attended by retired director of education, E Yaima, and RK Jhalajit, retired principal, LMS Law College, as chief guest and president.
The nine teachers honoured today with the state teachers award 2001 include Those selected for State Awards ace: W Krishnamani of Dameswari Pr School, K Shamu of Bengi Girls' LP School, S Thambou of Moirang Girls' Jr H/S, Th Ibopishak of N Tbmchou HS School, O Angouba of Chirai Pr School, K Karei of Raphei High School, Khupzachin of Phungkhothang Jr H/S, H Chongkhohen of Moreh H/S and RL Raini of Phuba Jr H/S.The retired teachers who were given gifts of honour included RK Jhulon of Ramlal Paul HS School, Sandhya Chaudhury of Lady Earle Girls' Jr H/S, H Nongyai of Lamdeng Jr H/S, Md Tayeb Ali of Oinam LP School, Ibempishak Devi of Tampha Girls' Pr School, W Manibabu of Kumari H/S, Y Tombi of Wangoi Makha Pr School, N Tombi Devi of Sarda LP School, Md Abdul Rashid of Khomidok Khabi Arapti Pr School, A Raghumani of Changamdabi Pr School, H Ibemhal Devi of Laiphrakpam Jr H/S, Md Abdul Razaque of Moijing Wangmataba LP School, W Nilo of Sikhong Khumbi Pr School, Y Nalini Devi of Moirang Boys' Jr High School, H Janaki of Thanga Wangma Girls' LP School, S Ngamjathang Mate of Tengnoupal Govt H/S, R Koshel Maring of Machi JB School, D Behring Lamkang of Paraolen JB School, H Luinam of Khamasom H/S, Johnbos of Choithar Jr H/S, Seikholam of Bishnulal Jr H/S, Mankhoching Kipgen of Keithelmanbi H/S, Majomdinang of Lenglong Jr H/S, Alet Chiru of Lamdangmei Jr H/S, P Manloon of Molkon JB School and L Apabi of Chingmang Jr High School.
Financial assistance amounting to Rs 5000 each was also distributed to the dependents of deceased teachers M Taruni Devi, Ng Hemaboy, Ch Ibocha, I Amujao Singh, A Dhananjoy, Dh Rungsung, and R Hormi.
In the meantime, the Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Awards, 2001 were also given away at a function held today at the RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya at Haotel (Pangei).
The function was attended by the present vice chancellor of Manipur University, Prof H Tombi, and his predecessor, Dr IS Khaidem.
Five teachers were awarded the RK Sanatombi Award, consisting of Rs 1000 cash and a certificate for their distinguished service in the profession.
12 others were also honoured for their outstanding contributions in arts, sports, mountaineering, traffic control, nursing, and handicrafts.
The Governor's Award for 2001 was awarded to Hijam Sumalatam a class XII Sc student of the school.
