Imphal, June 15 2021:
Worried by scarcity of water due to scanty rainfall and delay in the arrival of the monsoon season, Namkaolong Farmer's Development Society has urged department and authorities concerned to look into the matter and arrange alternative means for providing water to paddy fields.
In a release, Society's secretary Athemlu Kamei informed that the farmers of Namkaolong village in Khoupum Sub Division, Noney district are worried over water scarcity during this paddy sowing and transplantation period.
About 100 hectares of the paddy fields are parched as the water source/river have dried up and sowing and transplantation of paddy is not possible under such condition, the release stated, adding that the only solution at this stage is to feed water to the fields from the nearby lake and Khoupum Dam Reservoir using irrigation pumps.
Moreover, the release urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter and find other alternatives and save the farmers from any trouble as they are poor and cannot hire irrigation pumps for feeding their fields.
