Imphal, May 27 2021:
People's Task Force for Covid-19 (PTFC) has stressed the need for the state government to review its on-going efforts and assess any flaws, considering the worsening situation of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
In a statement, PTFC publicity and propaganda in-charge Moirangthem Angamba said that the second wave of the pandemic is worsening day-by-day.
On Wednesday, 10 people died due to Covid, while around 847 people out of 4075 examined tested positive, which is the highest positivity rate in a day in Manipur.
So far, the state has detected a total of 13,000 positive cases in the state while around 300 have lost their lives.
With the aim of taking the pandemic under control, the government had imposed curfew/lockdown in 7 districts.
However, despite its best efforts, the number of cases is spiking at an alarming rate, hinting at the possibility of some drawbacks in the measures taken up by the government.
As such, he appealed to the state government o reassess all of the measures taken up till date to identify any flaws and rectify them at the earliest to save the life of the people.
Recounting that a 7-member committee with the director of Health Directorate was formed some time ago for this very purpose, Angamba urged for putting out the committee's report in public domain.
He further urged the state government to announce effective measures in the matter so that concerted efforts could be made in curbing the spread of the pandemic.
The secretary then stressed heavily on operationalising the oxygen plants set up by the government at the earliest so as to meet the oxygen demands of the state, considering 1539 D-Type oxygen cylinders and 542 B-Type cylinders are being utilised on a daily basis.
This indicates that Covid patients requiring oxygen is also increasing, while the oxygen plants presently functioning under the government and private hospitals are producing only 900 D-Type oxygen cylinders per day.
"The vast difference in the supply and demand of medical oxygen per day cannot be easily met by importing additional oxygen from outside the state, taking into account the logistical issues", he remarked.
Angamba further said that the number of ICU beds in RIMS and JNIMS hospitals should be increased, along with increasing the manpower in districts for utilisation of the allocated ventilators, as claimed otherwise.
He also urged the government to make arrangements for easy and safe transportation of patients from far away areas to Imphal for treatment.
