Karkinos Healthcare launches HPV vaccination camp

Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute & Research Centre introduced HPV vaccination services for the first time on November 24.The announcement was made by Karkinos director cum CEO Dr (Prof) GS Moirangthem, and gynaecologist-oncologist consultant Dr Th James, along with other medical professionals and staff.
In addition to raising awareness about cancer prevention in the local community, Karkinos Healthcare Manipur conducted cancer risk assessment for all attendees of the programme.
Participants were also enrolled for ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) cards.
A total of 29 individuals, comprising 22 women and 7 men, received vaccinations during the programme.
Dr GS Moirangthem emphasised the significance of HPV vaccine in targeting the types most commonly associated with cervical cancer, as well as other cancers of the vulva, vagina, anus and oropharynx.
The vaccine also provides protection against the HPV types responsible for most genital warts.
Men and women aged 9-45 years are eligible for vaccination.
Expressing confidence in the success of the programme, he highlighted its potential impact on eliminating cervical cancer in the state.
The initiative aligns with the broader goal of Karkinos Healthcare to contribute to cancer prevention and healthcare improvement in the region, he added.
