Lilong, Jiribam protest fuel price hike

In support of the nationwide protest called by All India Congress Committee (AICC) against the skyrocketing fuel prices, Lilong Block Congress Committee staged a sit-in protest in front of an oil pump in Lilong on Friday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, intending INC candidate Syed Anwar Hussain condemned the PM Modi-led government for the ever-rising prices of fuel and other essential items, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The government must immediately slash the prices in the interest of the people, he said.
During the sit-in, the protesters held placards inscribed with slogans like "we want economic packages not rising prices of items", "people want employment, not inflation", etc.
Jiribam Block Congress Committee, Babupara Jiribam also organised a similar protest in front of the New Petrol Pump in Lakhipur on Friday.
Speaking on the sidelines, MPCC secretary in charge A Badrur Rahman informed that the protest was staged to protest the BJP's government decision to hike the fuel prices along with other items and denounce the government's lack of initiative to ease the burden of the people amid the Covid pandemic.
The protest was attended by Co-opted PCC member Md Jalaluddin, Jiribam Municipal Council former chairperson Tingkhoi Haokip, Jiribam Minority Congress Committee convener Abdul Manan, youth workers, JBCC office-bearers and truck drivers.
The protesters also shouted slogans such as "Hai-Hai Narendra Modi", "Down-Down BJP government" .
