Imphal, January 23 2013:
Demanding an independent body to investigate into the 11th January drug seizure from the airport, All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has alleged that the police personnel in the State are no more for the protection of the public but to guard the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister.
The police are also making Md Rajauddin of Lilong Sambru Thong a scapegoat to protect the identity of those involved in smuggling drugs.
In a statement by its Vice President Y Sundari Leima, AMDA asserted that the decision to abolish SIU Imphal West and charging SIU's Inspector K Ranjit with failure of informing about the raid to SP K Jayenta is just like killing his own children.
Moreover, considering the present status of Rajauddin, who is in the top list of AMADA for illegal drug business, it could not be possible for him to do drug business on such a large scale amounting to Rs.1.4 crore.
Pointing out that police commandos never inform their concerned SPs for every operation they conducted for arresting UGs, AMADA maintained that as per the report obtained by it, Inspector Ranjit did report to Additional SP, Imphal West about the incident but the SP out of station on 11th January and deposited the seized drug consignment to the police station.
In such a situation, the basis for abolition of SIU is unclear.
Instead of giving it as a reason, if the SP clarified that he was forced to make the statement as per order from higher authority, then people would appreciate him for his courage.
Urging Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also the Home Minister, not to remain silence over the issue, AMADA suggested that the Minister should serve the people of Manipur by producing the kingpins of the drug scam at the earliest possible.
