Lamka, January 23 2013:
Over and above the series of agitation the KSDC had announced a couple of days back, it has today added public curfew on Republic Day and advised all citizens to stay indoors.
"We will also impose public curfew from 5 am of January 26 till 6 pm in all the district headquarters and sub-divisional headquarters of Kuki inhabited areas, over and above the stir we had announced earlier,' said George Guite, KSDC's information and publicity secretary.
He said it is their appeal to all the schools and colleges and institutions to abstain from participating at the Republic Day celebrations, and remain indoors instead to show solidarity to their rightful demands.
All business houses are advised as well to down their shutters for the day, he stated adding, "We will not be held responsible for any untoward incident that may arise, if our appeals
go unheeded" .
He also announced the specifics of the public blockade that would come into effect from 5 pm tomorrow with only water supply, medical, electricity, press and media exempted from the blockade purview.
It would be enforced along Imphal-Ukhrul, Imphal-Senapati, Imphal-Jiribam, Imphal-Churachandpur, Imphal-Moreh and Imphal-Chandel highways, he said.
Arguing that they have been forced to initiate the stir by the Government which has ignored the Kuki political issues, George recalled how the Government has till date refused to initiate a dialogue on their political demands and simply made hollow assurances.
"It is our humble appeal to all church leaders that they pray unceasingly so that there can be an early political solution for the Kukis in the form of a Kuki state,' he pleaded further.
