Imphal, January 23 2013:
Altogether seven children including two girls brought from Meghalaya have been rescued by Thoubal district police.
Thoubal police teams led by the Commando OC and the OC of Thoubal police station were frisking/checking commuters near Thoubal canal along Imphal-Moreh highway when they saw seven children being transported in a Maruti van at about 10 pm yesterday.
On questioning the adults who were transporting the children, the adults said that the children were being taken to a children home at Chandel under the supervision of an NGO.
However, the adults could not produce any relevant document and they were hence apprehended.
The apprehended persons are Bisonmongshli (54) s/o late C Maring from Shangbangla, Ribhoi district Meghalaya, KL Larmy Anal (32) s/o KL Lunsung of Abungnikhu, Chandel district and Larmy's wife Uninov (19) who is a native of Meghalaya.
The two girls are about 13 years of age while the boys are in the age group of 8-12 years.
All the children were handed over to Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal last night itself.
CWC Thoubal has, in turn, informed their counterparts in Meghalaya and a report has been filed at Thoubal PS .
Even though the apprehended persons claimed that the children were being taken to a children home, police would be investigating into it as the they could not produce any document.
Although there were many instances when Manipuri children were rescued from different parts of India particularly from South India, it is a rare case that children brought from other States are rescued in Manipur.
