Imphal, June 14 2017:
All Manipur Students' Union and Coalition Against Drug and Alcohol has kicked off an antidrug campaign from Johnstone Higher Secondary School today.
The inaugural function was graced by Hijam Priyokumar, president, CADA, Manjit Sarangthem, president, AMSU, Ayekpam Sanjit, Principal in-charge, Johnstone Higher Secondary School and Dr Aheibam Jayantakumar, national president, FIGODAF as presidium members.
Speaking at the function, Manjit Sarangthem said that availability of illegal drugs has ruined the lives of many people particularly youth.
The anti-drug campaign was launched in order to save the society.
"Our society has become a chaos.
We witness youth dying from drug abuse almost everyday.
Drugs are being smuggled freely into the State.
If we do not check the rampant problem of drugs and alcohol now, human society will extinct.
While we undertake this campaign, the State Government too should come up with effective plans and policies to solve the issue of drugs and alcohol," he added.
Dr Aheibam Jayantakumar said, "Youth who are between 12 and 13 years of age start indulging in such inebriated substances.
It is during this age group that parents should pay more importance on what their children are up to.
The campaign was launched in a school as school-going adolescents are more likely to indulge in drugs and other illegal substances" .
One will gain nothing from indulging in substance abuse.
It only ruins a family and society.
It is necessary to realize the social issues and the consequences caused by drugs and take up stringent steps to solve them at the earliest, he added.
