Imphal, April 25 2015 :
MPP felicitated Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) president NC Deb Barman and general secretary Aghor Deb Barman at their office today.
Speaking at the gathering, MPP president N Sovakiran extended moral support and solidarity to IPFT candidates who are contested the Tripura Autonomous District Council election scheduled on May 3 .
With the objective of preventing total annihilation of indigenous Tripuris by outsiders, IPFT was set up in 2009 .
Like in Tripura, indigenous people of Manipur are also facing grave threats.
Under monarchy, Manipur and Tripura shared closed socio-political relationships, Sovakiran said.
IPFT president NC Deb Barman said that Tripura ADC election scheduled on May 3 would be an important milieu in the struggle to protect indigenous people of Tripura and alleviate their socio-economic status.
Almost 85 per cent of the total geographical area of Tripura is under ADCs.
IPFT would field its candidates in 28 seats and the party expects a pitched battle with ruling CPI(M).
Congress and BJP would be left far behind, NC Deb Barman said.
MPP advisor Dr L Chandramani said that peoples of the North East should unite together and protect their political boundaries collectively.
