Preserve culture, increase productivity, urges Gaikhangam

Deputy Chief Minister on Wednesday urged the people of the State to promote and conserve cultural heritage besides increasing primary productivity level of the State's economy.
Gaikhangam was addressing the closing ceremony of the 17th foundation day celebration of the Anji Cultural Academy and a two-month long training programme on 'Pung and Eeshei' at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound as the Chief Guest.
The Deputy Chief Minister lauded the Anji Cultural Academy for working in the field of conservation of culture and underlined the need for spreading awareness on traditions.
"Promotion of culture must go hand-in-hand with work culture to boost the productivity level of the State economy," he urged.

Gaikhangam stated that the soil and climatic condition of Manipur are suitable for cultivation of different varieties of vegetable and plants which should be encouraged with concerted effort.
Former minister Dr M Nara and PDA Chairman T Mangibabu were Guest of honour and President on the occasion.
Theatre personality Ratan Thiyam and others were honoured with 'Manipur Imagi Shaknairaba Macha Award" at the event which also witnessed performance of cultural songs and dances by students of the Anji Cultural Academy.
