Inferno kills one, houses burnt to cinders

Imphal, March 04 2012:
At least one labourer has been killed while as many as 25 houses have been reduced to cinders together with properties worth several lakhs of rupees in a devastating fire that broke out at a plywood factory located at Kanglatongbi under Sekmai police station in Imphal West district.
According to information culled from the spot, a fire broke out from a room occupied by labourers of the factory known as Mangalam Wood Industries Private Limited at about 3 this morning.
All the 25 houses destroyed by the inferno were built in a row using wood and bamboo.

The raging fire reduced all the 25 houses to ashes within 30 minutes while some four/five other houses could be saved with the arrival of fire tenders.
One labourer Surjit (35) from Silchar, Assam was charred to death by the inferno while three/four other labourers were also partially burnt.
All the people whose houses have been destroyed by the inferno are currently taking shelter in the neighbouring houses.
