Imphal, June 22:
Even as the Council of higher Secondary Education, Manipur has cancelled the affiliation of two colleges for a number of reasons ultimatum have been served to many other colleges to improve their competition performances or face the axe.
Speaking to the Sangai Express a Council source disclosed that deletion of the two colleges from the affiliation list of the CHSEM is not only due to cent percent failure in the Class XII examination held this year but also for lack of students and non-existent teaching staff currently.
The Council officials were also shocked to learn that there was no sign/record of teachers being employed at these colleges when inspections were carried out to ascertain the reason for the dismal performance of these higher institutions in the HSE-2005 exams, the source said.
The two institutions scrapped from the Council list are Ching-Tam College, Saijang and Shangzian College, Ukhrul.
Confirming the cancellation of the affiliation, the Council Chairman Kh Netrajit said Ching-Tam College in addition to the nil pass percentage and absence of faculty members said all the college rooms have been occupied by security force personnel.
With the exception of students stuck at the same college for failure to scale the class XII examination no new students could be enrolled and the Council case for cancellation got stronger as the institute authority could not authenticate presence of teaching staff.
Shangzian College in Ukhrul was also found to be in a similar condition as the Saijang institute with the only difference being that the former did not have its own building.
As success had been eluding the institute for the last many years the unenviable trend could have dissuaded new students from seeking admission to the college, observed the source while conveying that alternative arrangement will be made allow these students appear in the next examination from their preferred institute.
The source further revealed that the Council has decided to cancel continuation of class XI & XII standards at SDBN College (Chandrakhong) Cambridge Higher Secondary School and North Point Higher Secondary School for failing to submit enrolment record in the higher grades last year.
Higher institutes coming under the Council scanner for consistently dishing out below-par performances at exams and warned to improve are Jiri College, Kumbi College, SK Womens College, Regional College, Lilong College, Polestar College, Universal College and Ng Mani College.
In another council initiative to plug academic gaps left by the Government decision to downgrade some higher secondaries process had been set into motion to reopen 10+2 at eight colleges.
These institutes are Nambol L Sanoi College, CI College and Moirang College in Bishnupur district, Thoubal College in Thoubal district and Kha-Manipur College, DM College of Commerce, NG College and MB College in the twin capital districts.
Instructions have also been conveyed to these colleges to ensure presence of atleast 80 students in a section with 30 each in case of the institute offering both science and arts streams and 25 in vocational courses.
