Imphal, January 24:
Stringent security measures have been taken up in the State to ensure that the celebration of the Nation's 59th Republic Day passes off smoothly inspite of the boycott call given by different armed organisations in the region.
Elaborate pre-emptive security measures have been chalked out by security agencies in the wake of armed outfits operating in the North Eastern region threatening to disrupt the country's most cherished occasion on January 26 .
To foil any such attempt security forces including State police personnel, India Reserve battalion, Manipur Rifles and Central Para-Military forces like the BSF and CRPF have intensified patrolling exercises at vulnerable locations in and around the twin capital districts, said a senior police official.
"along with intense frisking and checking at strategic places State forces have been assigned rigorous mobile patrolling duties round the clock to foil all subversive activities of militants," he said.
Moreover, troops under the command of inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Maj gen BK Chengapa have been deployed and alerted to maintain constant vigil.
"In view of the boycott call made by militant outfits on Republic Day troops under the command of the IGAR (S) have enhanced security domination exercises in all parts of the State including Chandel, Ukhrul, the capital districts, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts," said a spokesman of the Assam Rifles.
Army spokesman Col Rajesh Mishra said sufficient safeguards have been taken up at all areas under the command of GOC Red Shield Division.
The troops are co-ordinating well as also taking extra vigil at several points in the hills.
