Imphal, January 24:
Reacting to news report of January 17 regarding dispute in Kwarok Maring village near Nongpok sekmai, the Kwarok Maring Village Authority and local youth club have clarified that the issue has nothing to do with religious affinity or practice in the said
village.
As Mr Morung and his followers had been reclusive and declining to contribute to collective house tax, power bill, village donation (fund) and preferring solitude on social gathering/event of the village, the villagers considered it was appropriate to banish them for their indifferent and stubborn attitude, said a release of the Village Authority.
Asserting that Kwarok village inhabitants understand secular ethos of the country, the release further mentioned of Mr Morung and his followers, who are Catholics, of appending their signatures to agreement for the reclusive group to reside beyond the limit of the village.
Further rejecting news report that four churches of Catholic denomination were also ravaged on an earlier occasion, the Village Authority contended that Mr Morung had already confided to the body of withdrawing his statement published in State dailies on January 7 .
Insisting that the villagers are capable enough to settle any outstanding issue internally, the release urged all concerned to ensure that religious sentiment are not exploited and spawned.
