Lamka, January 24:
Exactly a week after a 'sub-standard' wooden bridge over Ngasuanlui river gave in under the weight of a truck claiming the lives of 20 passengers and causing injuries to 38 others, Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) has issued a series of demands, including a white paper on the work taken up under ACA along the Singngat-Behiang stretch of Tiddim Road in the wake of the incident.
In this connection, a memorandum of the students' body addressed to the Chief Minister and a copy of the same forwarded to the Works Minister and MLA concerned, said 'the State Government must institute an inquiry into the tragic incident and award befitting punishment to the guilty officials or contractors'.
It also demanded immediate payment of ex-gratia to the victims and injured persons as per Government norms and called for complete replacement of the bridge with concrete, which will be durable and technically safe and sound.
With its demands made known, the students' body further warned of initiating a series of agitations if the Government fails to comply with the charter of demands on or before February 25 .
TSA urges : Conveying deep concern over the fate of the written test qualified candidates for primary teachers who have been agitating in protest against the failure of the State Govt to conduct viva-voce to finalise the recruitment process, the Thadou Students' Association has urged the Govt to complete the recruitment process at the earliest.
Any further delay in conducting the viva-voce would compel the TSA to take its own course of action, it cautioned.
