Government spends Rs 41.82 lakh for visiting state guests, VIPs

Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh today informed the House that the state government has so far spent a total amount of Rs 41.82 lakh this year in receiving state guests and other VIPs visiting Manipur.
Replying to a question raised by Sugnu MLA K Ranjit Singh from the opposition bench in the assembly, the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that the government determines the amount of expenditure for official visits by VIPs to the state.
MLA Ranjit asked if there was a limit on the spending for receiving visiting guests by the state government.
The Congress MLA further asked whether it was prerequisite to organise cultural programmes and dinner for such official visits.
Responding to the question, CM Biren replied that every official visit does not necessarily include any ceremonial aspect and that the government decides the spending depending on the importance of the VIPs.
Biren Singh said, "The government has so far spent Rs 41.82 lakh in receiving state guests or imminent persons during the period between March 15 and July 15 this year" .
