Jiri meet endorses Nov 18 deadline for ILP

Imphal, September 21 2012:
A public meeting held under the aegis of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System at Jiribam today resolved to press the state government to implement Inner Line Permit System in the state by November 18 .
The public meeting was organised in association with AMSU, DESAM, KSA, SWAK and SUK.
Mention may be made that Manipur Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution to extend Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act 1873 in the state.
Drawing attention of the government over increasing influx of illegal migrants in the state, the meeting endorsed the November 18 deadline earlier given by the Committee to the government for implementing ILP in the state.
The meeting also resolved to take up necessary actions by the public for ensuring implementation of ILP in case the government fails to do the needful within the set deadline.
Addressing the meeting, Convener of the Joint Committee, Sapamcha Jadumani said that the demand of the Committee is not to chase out migrants but to let them stay in accordance to the law of the land so as to protect the identity and culture of the indigenous people.
He also appealed to the people of the state not to sell lands and establishments to the migrant workers.
Furthermore, he urged the state government to refrain from issuing voter cards to the migrant workers.
Co-Convener of Joint Committee Th Ratan; Convener of Jiribam District Demand Committee M Maipak; Executive member of Manipur Athouba Ningshing Lup Jiribam Arunkumar Mangang; Secretary of FREINDS Jiribam Branch Th Momon; Advisor of Jiribam Development Organisation Th Somorendro were among others who attended the meeting as presidium members.
