Sawombung says no more land for FCS godown

Reacting against the proposed construction of an FCI godown at Sawombung under Imphal East district, Village Chief Authority and Semgat Sagat Marup, Sawombung have threatened to launch intense agitations if the State government tries to grab more lands for the purpose.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Pres Club here today, M Shyamkishore, Secretary of Village Chief Authority and Semgat Sagat Marup, Sawombung, said that the attitude of the State Government to construct a FCI godown at Sawombung by grabbing in more lands is highly condemnable.
If the State Government tries to take hold of more lands from Sawombung area for the purpose, various intense agitations with the support of various CSOs in the State would be taken up.
A memorandum in this regard has also been submitted to the Chief Minister and the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on May 21, he disclosed.
He further informed that the memorandum has enumerated a number of demands which included condemning the attempt of the State Government to construct a FCI godown at Sawombung by the people; to stop the construction of FCI godown at Sawombung; not to allow any construction of government or private offices or building at Sawombung area by taking over lands of the people and to make functional the various offices in Sawombung which have remained defunct for the last 10 years.
Shyamkishore pointed out that vast tract of land in Sawombung areas have already been donated to the State Government for the purpose of constructing government offices and buildings including VDF office, SDO/SDC office, Sawombung Primary School, Sawombung Forest, BSNL office and Sawombung Sangeet Samaj, etc.
The total land area thus donated would come to around 30 paris of land.
If the Government wants more land from Sawombung area, then there would be no place for the future generation and at the same time there would be no agricultural land in Sawombung, he maintained.
