TDC repairs road, stranded vehicles reach Imphal

Imphal, September 27 2012:
Even as loaded trucks were stranded for days after some trucks leading the convoy got stuck in depressed portions of Imphal-Jiribam highway, BRO did nothing to tow away the stuck trucks nor repaired the depressed portions.
It was the Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) which repaired the depressed portions and enabled the stranded trucks to move ahead, alleged the TDC.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, TDC president H Ranjit said that around 300 loaded rucks were stranded after two trucks got stuck in a depressed portion of NH 37 at a spot about 1.5 Km away from Oinamlong.
Even as the trucks remained stranded for three days since the night of September 24, BRO did little to pull up the stuck trucks nor did they make any effort to repair the depressed portions.
As no BRO staff showed up at the spot, the TDC took a truck load of stones/shingles from its Jiribam complex and repaired the depressed portion following which the stranded trucks could move ahead and reach Imphal.
Responding to the BROs request to give them three truck loads of stones, the same request has been filled.
With these stones, a short diversion road has been repaired at Goladhon.
However subsequent request to give more stones has been declined, Ranjit said.
Even today, BRO has not been procuring necessary material for repairing the highway and they were not repairing the highway, he asserted.
The recent comment of Union Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju that the highway development work could not make much progress due to movement of around 500/600 vehicles on NH 37 everyday was based on BROs false report.
Even though around 500/600 vehicles move along the highway in a week, the trucks get stuck and stranded as the BRO fail to repair the highway properly, he added.
