Imphal, September 27 2012:
RIMS road which has been repaired and expanded after much delay has evolved into convenient parking lots for the many private hospitals and diagnostic centres lining up the road.
A reliable source disclosed that private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres located along the road approached the Government to provide them parking lots when the road development work was completed.
Acting on the request, the State Government entrusted certain portions of RIMS road to Traffic Police for using them as parking lots on trial basis.
Taking serious note of the heavy volume of traffic seen on RIMS road in addition to providing a crucial link to RIMS, RIMS road was expanded and developed to the present status at a huge cost to the State exchequer for public convenience, particularly patients and their parties moving along the road.

Though people were waiting for completion of the road development work for many years with high hopes, all their expectations were belied after the road development work was completed.
On both sides of RIMS road are located many private hospitals and clinics including Sapam X-Ray, Sky Hospital, Padma Diagnostic Centre, Imphal Hospital and Research Centre, Babina Diagnostic Centre etc.
In addition to hospitals and clinics, there are many automobile workshops and pharmacies along the road besides others.
These hospitals and clinics have no parking space of their own, and visitors coming to these hospitals and clinics have been parking their vehicles along RIMS road everyday.
It is not just one side of the road.
Very often, both sides of the road are turned into parking lots.
Sometimes, half of the road is blocked to facilitate examination and treatment by specialist doctors coming from outside the State.
In short, private hospitals and diagnostic centres have been using RIMS road as parking lots for their vehicles.
With both sides of the road occupied by stationery vehicles, the road is irritatingly congested during peak hours.
