The Imphal-Moreh stretch of National Highway 2 and the Imphal-Jiribam stretch of National Highway-37 are set for a major spruce up to be in time for the Asian Car Rally and Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar Car Rally (BCIM) .
While the Asian Car Rally is scheduled to be held in December this year, the BCIM Car Rally will be held in February next year.
Speaking to The Sangai Express a reliable source informed that a meeting was convened by the Secretaries of the External Affairs Ministry and the Transport Ministry at New Delhi to discuss the conditions of the two stretches and the preparations being made.
The Asian Car Rally is slated to start from Indonesia and wind up at Guwahati after passing through Manipur.

The meeting today discussed on the possibility of sprucing up the Imphal-Moreh stretch of the highway before December 15 to be ready for the rally.
Other than the Secretary of External Affairs, H Sanjay Singh and Secretary of Transport Ministry AK Upadhaya, officials from the State Government and BRO officials were present at the meeting held yesterday, said the source.
During the meeting, the BRO officials informed that of the 222 kms stretch between Jiribam and Imphal, 80 kms are still to be black topped.
The BRO officials expressed confidence that black topping work on 40 kms of the 80 kms would be completed by February next year, while the remaining 40 kms would be made motorable.
On the other hand, the BCIM rally is slated to start from Kolkata on February 21 next year.
