Hijam Anganghal remembered

Renowned Manipuri poet Hijam Anganghal was fondly remembered on his 72nd birth anniversary during a function held at Ningomthongjao here on Saturday.
Organised by Mahakabi Hijam Angahal Memorial Celebration Committee, Ningomthongjao, the event was attended by Thongju MLA Th Bishwajit, committee president Th Kunjaraj and Manipur University Hindi Department retired professor and Critic Forum Manipur president IS Kangjam as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
On the occasion, the participants paid floral tributes at the memorial complex of the poet.
Hijam Anganghal (1892�1943) was one of the most important Meetei writers of 20th century.
Hijam Anganghal�besides being a poet� was a well-known essayist and dramatist, renowned for his magnum opus, Khamba Thoibi (1940), which is a poem of 39,000 lines considered to be a 'national' epic of the Meeteis.
