Poet Chaoba remembered on his 118th birth anniversary

Eminent poet of Manipur Khwairakpam Chaoba Singh was remembered on his 118th birth anniversary on Wednesday.
Bal Pursuhkar Awardee Sagolsem Indrakumar and Sahitya Academy Yuva Purushkar Awardee Takhellambam Devachand were honoured by presenting them shawls at the commemorative function organized by Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here.
Telem Ningol Atoibemma Award, 2013 was given to Dr Chirom Rajketan, Birendrajit Naorem was honoured with Tayenjam Jayenta Poetry Award, 2013 and Padma Devi Award, 2013 was conferred to Leimiyon.
The awards carry Rs 10,000 each along with shawls and citations.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof H Nandakumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University, said Manipuri literature written by different writers of the state is trying to make known the land to the world.
Many writers at the same time are endeavoring to get the taste of other outside literatures through translations into Manipuri language, he said.
Remembrance and observation of renowned poets and authors like Khwairakpam Chaoba, Dr Kamal and Hijam Irabot is undeniably giving lights to the society, he asserted.
Acknowledging that poetry and literature not only enhance the human values and qualities but also give pleasure, the Professor said if the people read these writings, the society will become very compassionate and philanthropic.
Prof P Nabakumar, who also attended the function, suggested the Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal to assimilate the whole intellectual of eminent writers of Manipur which focus on the society.
He said, Literature gives pleasure and also make up positive thoughts to people, he added.
