Revenue Minister Karam Shyam reaches out to solve problem of Landless

Imphal, April 15 2017:
Revenue Minister Karam Shyam, who is also the Minister for CAF&PD today inspected Mayang Lanjing Taning and Haorang Sabal in Lamsang Assembly Constituency and heard the grievances of the landless people of the area who have been demanding patta (land title).
The Minister was accompanied by Lamsang MLA and Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh.
Speaking to media persons, Karam Shyam said that, in Mayang Lanjing Taning, 85 households are presently occupying 16.4 acre of land and in Haorang Sabal 79 households are occupying 21.37 acre without patta (land title).
He said 20 years back, the then government in the interest of the landless people, gave the area for settlement.
However the government is bearing losses in revenue from the said areas as the landless people have not given any land tax due to lack of patta.
He said that, he will look into the issue on humanitarian ground and follow law of the land in consultation with a committee.
Lamsang MLA and Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh said since the landless people don't have patta they are unable to avail housing benefits.
He expressed happiness towards Revenue Minister Karam Shyam for listening to the grievances of the landless locals.
Minister Karam Shyam along with the team also inspected yet to be inaugurated SDO/SDC office at Haorang Sabal.
He said the building will be improved and renovated so that the office can start functioning.
Imphal West DC, SDO/SDC Lamsang and other officials accompanied the minster during the inspection.
