World Population Day observed

As in other parts of the world, the World Population Day was observed Wednesday by the District Health Society and District Family Welfare Bureau, Thoubal under the theme - "Family Planning is a Human Right" at the conference hall of CMO Complex, Thoubal with the inauguration of "World Population Fortnight" to beheld till the July 24.The programme was graced by DC Thoubal Haobam Rosita IAS, CMO Thoubal Dr N Jayantakumar, CMO Kakching Dr Sh Mangol, DFWO Kakching Dr T Nillakanta and DFWO Thoubal Dr Ksh Memcha as presidium members.
World Population Fortnight provides temporary Family Planning methods, oral pills, Cu-T, condoms etc free of costs to the public.
Permanent methods of family planning including tubectomy, vasectomy and NSV were also made available to the public free of costs.
District Family Welfare Officer, Thoubal Dr Ksh Memcha provided insight on issues related to early pregnancy and importance of family planning and sex education at the event.
Speaking at the observation, DC Thoubal Rosita said that population explosion could harm the development of the State.
She said there is an urgent need to spread awareness on family planning.
The basic problem everywhere is that the population is increasing day by day.
We need to think of ways to control this gradual increase of population, she added.
CMO Thoubal Dr N Jayantakumar spoke in detail about the possible impact of uncontrolled birth and population growth on social and economy of the State.
Medical staff and ASHA workers attended the programme, In a separate programme, the Earth Care Foundation (ECF), Kiyam Siphai Thoubal and District Legal Services Authority Imphal East to gether observed the World Population Day with a legal awareness session at Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy, Nongmeibung Imphal Wednesday.
Chairman of DLSA Imphal East cum District and Session Judge Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Principal and Vice Principal of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy attended the event as presidium members.
