Foundation laid for Pandit Upadhyay Institute

The foundation stone for the academic block of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Institute of Agricultural Sciences (PDDUIAS) at Utlou in Bishnupur district was laid by agriculture minister Th Biswajit on Sunday.
Speaking as chief guest of the ceremony, minister Th Biswajit pointed out that as agriculture is our means of livelihood we need to develop the agriculture sector and become economically self-sustainable.
While reminding all concerned that hard work will help us reach our destined goal, he also appealed to all to desist from using pesticides and chemical fertilizers as they are injurious to health and also emphasised the need to adopt integrated farming.
Delivering the presidential speech, Padmashri awardee and ex-union min ister Th Chaoba, who is also the PDDUIAS chairman, said that human beings depend on agricultural products for survival.
Without resource and income generating means there can be no development.
Therefore, we need to work hard and be resourceful and help oneself in generating income, he said.
Earlier, while delivering the keynote address, PDDUIAS director RK Imotomba Singh said that the institute was established on August 7, 2017 at Utlou and has been encouraging students to pursue studies in Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries and Forestry.
The institute got permanent affiliation from Manipur University in 2022 and now it has Post Graduate courses recognised by the UGC.
Later, a book titled "Effect of Weather Parameters Growth and Yield of Black Scented and Aromatic Rice Cultivars Manipur" written by Hanglem lonebala Devi was released.
