Bishnupur, August 25 2021:
Bishnupur District Family Welfare Officer (DFWO) Dr Krishnachandra Luwang has said that efforts are on to keep COVID-19 under control in the district.
During an interaction with media persons at his office on Wednesday, Dr Krishnachandra informed that more than 8,000 people have contracted COVID-19 during the first and second wave of the pandemic and more than 260 people succumbed to the viral infection so far while more than 7,800 people have recovered from the disease.
According to the DFWO, COVID-19 situation in the state and Bishnupur district could be considered as slightly improved as of now though positivity rate in the state is currently hovering above 10 per cent.
It would be considered as under control when positivity rate comes down below 5 and as such utmost precautionary measures need to be followed by everybody, he said and appealed to people to maintain Covid appropriate behaviour and observe SOPs strictly.
He further appealed to people to get vaccinated as government firmly believes that vaccination is the only way to control COVID-19 as of now.
According to Krishnachan-dra, on receipt of the second dose it could prevent one from contracting the virus by up to 90 per cent but there is no guarantee that vaccination can fully protect one from the disease.
Though fatality rate in the state has gone down and it is below 1 per cent, vaccination of 70 per cent of state's population is essential to achieve herd immunity and prevent further spread of the disease, he added.
