Budget session of Assembly underway

Imphal, March 06 2013:
The 3-day long 4th session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly began from today with Governor Gurbchan Jagat Singh making a speech in the House highlighting achievements of the various developmental schemes taken up by different departments of the State Government.
The Governor speech was followed by a Motion of Thanks moved by MLA L Nandakumar and it was seconded by MLA Dr Ng Bijoy.
Later, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh presented the 4th Report of Business Advisory Committee, 2013, Demands for Grants, 2013-14; Supplementary Demands for Grants 2012-13 and Budget Estimate, 2013 one after another.
Presenting the tentative Budget Estimate of Rs 9008.95 crores for the fiscal year 2013-14, the Chief Minister observed that the "the finances of the state are passing through an extremely critical and challenging phase�." and sought the co-operation of all the Members in passing the Demands for Grants (Vote on Accounts) of Rs 3002.98 crores for the next four months.
Accordingly, the House members approved the proposals of the Chief Minister on Vote on Accounts unanimously.
The first day of the session also witnessed obituary reference on the demise of former CPI MLA Th Achouba of Khangabok A/C.Speaker Th Lokeshore and leader of the House and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh also took part in paying tributes to the late MLA.
RD&PR minister Francis Ngajokpa introduced the Manipur Rural Local Bodies Ombudsmen Bill 2013 and Manipur Municipality Ombudsmen Bill 2013 by the Chief Minister.
The 3-day long Budget session will continue till March 8 .
