Imphal, August 04 2018:
People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has demanded the creation of an independent inquiry commission under the Commission of Inquiry Act 1952 (Rules 1972) to investigate the charges levelled against AP Pandey.
A press release issued by the secretary, information and public relations of PANDM reasoned that it would be better if a retired Chief Justice, or at best if a retired VC, is appointed as the chairman of the independent committee.
Claiming that the details about the order issued by the Registrar in-charge of MU giving leave to Pandey and appointing Professor W Vishwanath as the VC in-charge is unclear, PANDM opined that if the order had mentioned that Pandey has been given leave till the completion of the inquiry to ensure free and fair investigation and if it had been mentioned that Pandey would be stationed at Imphal till the completion of the inquiry, Professor M Vishwanath could be urged to accept the post of VC in-charge.
If Professor Vishwanath still declines to accept the post, the Government will have to search for other viable alternatives, it added.
PANDM further urged the Government to take up necessary steps to solve the university issue at the earliest so as to win back the trust of the people.
